REVIEW: Big Island Candies' Over-the-Top Holidays!

MAI

As you make your way through the front doors of Big Island Candies the first thing to catch your eyes are these over-sized Mercury Glass pendant ornaments hanging from the ceiling. Crystal garlands swag outward to give an opulent and grand effect. Even the ceiling has been painted silver and gold.

A cheerful greeter then gets your attention by handing you a small paper cup with an array of delectable samples to try and then directs you to the right where you are offered a delicious taste of fresh brewed Kona Coffee. These samples are free and you'll find even more throughout the store as you walk through the different sections.

This fabulously mod manequin also sets your shopping mood as she sits among an abundance of silver and pink glass balls.

Here's my friend Kima. We scored several boxes of cookies and other delights for gifts while sipping our delicious coffee and treats.

Here are those samples I was telling you about. My absolute favorite item in Big Island Candies is the Mika Mints. And look, apparently a lot of other people think so too! Next time I'm going to stop there first. LOL

All around the store you'll find life-size mannequins, charming characters with exaggerated, yet realistic, features and frocks. You just gotta smile at the whimsy.

Behind the store is the candy factory and within the store interior there are large clear glass windows which allow visitors to see the actual cookie making process.

Here, local bakers dip the famous shortbread cookies that Big Island Candies is known for; dipped half way down in melted vats of rich chocolate and on the diagonal. Another baker is crushing local brand potato chips for specialty cookies, while others happily mix crisp rice kernels in with milk chocolate for delectable bars and candies.

I laughed when I saw this photo. I had taken it on the diagonal just like all of the chocolate-dipped shortbread cookies! I love that the packaging is always new and fresh for all the different occasions throughout the year.

Always so cheerful, Charmaine is happy to ring up my purchases, stamping my purchase savings card. Even as I walk out of the store, the last thing I think is, "Gosh, that's so pretty." They really try to make sure that everyone leaves on a sweet note. So happy I live Big Island!
